You’ve inspired me and countless others to be better humans, and those that have known and loved you will carry that with them for the rest of their lives. You are missed every second of every day, the world isn’t the same without you.

William Zelko
This tribute is for my dad, William Zelko. My dad enlisted in the United States Army right after high school. He spent years away from his family and friends. But serving our country is what he wanted to do. Although it’s been a while since he has been out. He still remembers his days vividly. I sit and listen patiently to the stories he has to offer. He loves to reminisce “about the times!” Thank you pop for your service and dedication. I love you.

SPC Kasey Beatty
My son Kasey served in the Army. During a 15 month tour in Iraq, he encountered many horrendous things a young man shouldn't have to.Upon returning home, he struggled with PTS. Unfortunately, upon his honorable discharge, Kasey was instructed to deal with his issues as a soldier, as a man. So he refused to seek help when he needed to.However, he remained the honorable, generous, compassionate and loving person he'd always been. He gave and loved and cared for others without end. This human light on earth who loved to serve and make others happy, just couldn't make himself whole again. He died of suicide due to war on April 13, 2014. All of his family misses him dearly, but no one more than his Mom.

Malaysia Harrell
A Tribute to Malaysia Harrell: A Beacon of Service and EmpowermentThere are people who enter our lives and leave an indelible mark, not just through their words, but through their unwavering commitment to service, empowerment, and change.
Malaysia Harrell is one of those extraordinary souls—a woman whose passion for uplifting others knows no bounds.Through the Malaysia Harrell Foundation, she has created a legacy of impact, championing causes that support veterans, service members, and marginalized communities. Her mission is rooted in action, in giving a voice to those often unheard, and in ensuring that every individual has the resources and support they need to thrive.Malaysia’s work is not just about charityit’s about transformation. Whether she’s advocating for those who have served our country, mentoring women to step into their power, or fostering opportunities for economic and personal growth, she does so with grace, resilience, and an unshakable belief in the potential of every human being. For those of us who have had the honor of knowing her, Malaysia is more than a leader—she is a sister in the fight for a better world, a mentor who sees greatness in others before they see it in themselves, and a heart-centered force of nature who reminds us all that true success is measured by the lives we lift up along the way. This February, as we honor veterans and service members, let’s also honor the champions who stand beside them—people like Malaysia Harrell, whose dedication to service ensures that their sacrifices are never forgotten, and their futures remain bright.Thank you, Malaysia, for all that you do. Your impact is immeasurable, and your legacy is one of love, empowerment, and true service.

My eldest brother, who was more like my father, than my actual father. I remember writing him letters, when I could barely write. Later when he retired from the navy , he shared with me how him and his shipmates couldn’t wait to read another letter from his “baby sister” he was the best big brother/father a girl could wish for. He was and always will be, my hero. He always chose the right thing to do , over the bad. He was the best human on this planet! 🇺🇸

CJ Love
My older brother joined the Air Force after high school, and I always worried about him, but we were never close and didn't really talk. I moved out of state, and never really heard from him or how he was doing in the Air Force, minus one time when he called my mom and I got to say hi. While at home, I got a call from my stepdad telling me what happened and I didn't believe it because he was such a happy guy. I wish I knew what happened to my big brother, what made him decide what he did.

Paul Walter Lesswing
This is a picture of my Dad. He served in WWII. He took his life in 1964, 20 years after his service. I was 4 years old. I know him mostly through the stories told about him. He saw so many of his friends die, I believe he didn't know how to process that and live a " normal" life. I miss all the love we could have shared. I miss sitting with him and watching Jackie Gleason ( one of my few memories with him). I miss having a Dad, my whole life. I am thankful my Mom was a rock. We need to provide consistent support for soliders, as war is brutal. Love you always Dad.
- Donna
Ronald Ewer
My father-in-law served nearly 20 years between his time in the Navy, the National Guard, and the Army. After almost losing him to suicide a little over a year ago, he has since decided to go back to school for his Masters in Social Work to help care for service members the way he needed. This man jumped into a father role for me when I had none. He's always there when he's needed. He's a very devoted grandpa ("Pop"). And he is loved and cared for more than he knows. We are all so proud of all he has done and the strength and conviction he has to help the next generation of service members.
- Callie

This picture is of my fatherhe was 17 or 18 years old. All he ever wanted to be was a Marine. He was 5’ 2.5”, and weighed 120 pounds, but the doctor who did his physical said he wasn’t through growing. He was a Korean Veterandidn’t get a scratch. In 1956, when I was 4 years old, he went to Puerto Rico on a short assignment. While traveling in a troop transport truck to pick up some other Marines, the driver lost control of the truck and it hit a tree. There were 3 of them in the truckDad was in the middle. He received traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord damage. His right arm was completely paralyzed, both of his legs were partially paralyzed, and he had very little control over his left arm. I never really got to know him. He lived 40 years after the accidentmy grandmother was his full-time nurse. He was later retired, retroactive to 1956. When he died, some of the men he had served with came to see me and told me what a wonderful man and Marine he was. He was given a full honor guard and a 21-gun salute, as well as a bugler playing Taps.
